When does Tatkal booking open?
Tatkal normally opens one day before the train leaves its originating station.
For AC classes it normally opens at 10:00 AM IST. For non-AC classes it normally opens at 11:00 AM IST.
Which date should I enter?
Enter the date on which the train leaves its originating station.
This is important when you board the train later on its route. Your own boarding date can be different from the date on which the train started its journey.
Do I need Aadhaar for Tatkal booking on IRCTC?
For Tatkal booking through the IRCTC website or app, the booking user needs an Aadhaar-authenticated IRCTC account.
Aadhaar-based OTP authentication is also part of the Tatkal booking process, so make sure the required mobile access is working before the opening time.
What happens at a railway reservation counter?
For Tatkal booking through a railway reservation counter, a system-generated OTP is sent to the mobile number given for the booking.
Keep that phone available when you go to the counter.
Can an authorised agent book at exactly 10:00 or 11:00?
Not on opening-day Tatkal during the first 30 minutes.
That means the earliest agent time is normally 10:30 AM for AC classes and 11:30 AM for non-AC classes. Direct users and railway counters use the normal opening time.
Does the correct opening time guarantee a Tatkal ticket?
No. This tool only tells you the normal opening date, opening time and booking-readiness steps.
Tatkal quota may not be available for every train, class or route, and availability can change very quickly after booking opens.
What if my Tatkal ticket becomes waitlisted?
Tatkal can also have a waiting list. Tatkal booking does not guarantee a confirmed seat.

Why does this checker not ask for train number or PNR?
The normal Tatkal opening date is based on the train-origin departure date and the opening time is based on AC or non-AC class.
This checker does not predict seat availability or confirmation, so it does not need your PNR, passenger name, Aadhaar number or other sensitive information.
